Concrete Mixer Drum Repair
Murfreesboro, Nashville, and Middle Tennessee
Concrete drums are important equipment used in the construction industry for mixing and transporting concrete. In the course of transport or during use, the cement mixer drums become damaged from wear and tear, lack of care, or an accident. Over time and through regular use, the abrasive nature of concrete wears away the internal skins and fins.
To fix it, you must repair or replace it. It’s often more economical than purchasing new drums either by cost or due to lead time.
Professional Maintenance and Repair Services for Your Concrete Drum Mixers
There are several ways to repair damaged concrete mixer drums, depending on the extent of the damage. Drums with minor damage, such as small cracks or dents, can be patched with repair materials. For more severe damage, the drum may need to be rebuilt.
Larger, commercial companies that work with hundreds of trucks and cement mixer drums use LucasMWF to repair, renovate, and get them back into service. We have the specialty tools and an existing process with several companies to offer end-to-end support: pickup, repair, and delivery.
Cost-Effective Concrete Drum Repair
The cost of a new commercial concrete mixer drum can vary depending on several factors, such as the brand, size, materials, and where it’s being constructed. Generally, a cement mixer drum (just the drum itself) can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Drums can range from around 6 cubic yards to 10 cubic yards or more, with large drums costing more.
Drums made of higher-quality or heavier gauge materials, such as high-strength steel or quarter wall plate, cost more than drums made from mild steel and thinner materials.

Proven Concrete Drum Mixer Repair Process
Here are the steps involved in the concrete drum mixer repair process:
- Inspection and checklist: LucasMWF uses a sensing device to inspect the drum skin thickness, and we perform a visual inspection on the drum internals. We complete a checklist, then send a repair recommendation with an estimate.
- Disassemble the drum: We remove the drum mixer from the truck, place it on a repair jig, then begin to disassemble it. This involves removing the blades, paddles, and other components that are attached to the drum interior.
- Clean the drum: We thoroughly clean the cement mixer drum to remove debris, dirt, and residue that may have accumulated inside. This step ensures that the new components can be installed correctly and that the drum is free from any contaminants that could affect the quality of the weld process.
- Replace damaged components: We replace any damaged or worn-out components, such as blades, blade supports, hatch doors, and skins.
- Installation: We perform a full perimeter weld of all blades, blade supports, and skins.
- Delivery: After we complete the repairs, we load the mixer drum on the delivery trailer and it’s brought back to your site.
Overall, repairing a concrete drum mixer is a detailed process that requires expertise, specialized tools, and equipment. It’s important to work with a professional repair and welding service to ensure that the repair is done correctly and that the cement mixer is safe to use.
